FAQs

When should we book our wedding DJ?

1

Most couples book their wedding DJ 9–12 months before their wedding date, especially for popular venues and peak wedding seasons.

In regions like Saratoga Springs, the Hudson Valley, and the Catskills, many venues host weddings nearly every weekend from May through October. Booking early ensures you secure a DJ who is experienced with weddings and familiar with your venue.

Do you travel for weddings?

2

Yes. Brian performs weddings throughout Upstate New York, the Hudson Valley, the Catskills, the Adirondacks, and the New York City region, as well as nearby areas in Massachusetts, Vermont, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

Many weddings take place at destination venues in Manhattan, Westchester, Lake George, Saratoga Springs, and at Catskills resorts & farm-to-table venues, so travel is very common.

Can you provide music for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception?

3

Absolutely. A typical wedding includes music for:

• Guest arrival / Ceremony processional and recessional
• Cocktail hour
• Reception introductions
• First dances
• Dinner atmosphere
• High-energy dancing later in the evening

The music evolves throughout the day to match the mood of each moment. There’s never silence!

Do we get to choose the music?

4

Yes. Every couple has different musical tastes, and your preferences are a central part of planning the night.

We have an easy-to-use app at your fingertips asking for:

• Must-play songs & do-not-play songs
• First dances and parent dance songs
• Musical styles you enjoy
• And you have access to our music library to help pique your interests

From there, DJ Brian shapes the flow of the evening so that the dance floor stays full and the energy builds naturally & continually.

What types of music do you typically play at weddings?

5

Wedding dance floors often include a mix of music that brings multiple generations together.

Your preferences matter most, but styles might include:

• Motown and classic soul / Golden oldies
• 80s and 90s favorites
• Hip-hop and R&B
• Pop and dance music
• Country favorites
• Throwback sing-along songs
• Modern remixes and house-influenced dance tracks

Brian has also played many years of events incorporating cultural heritage must plays, a spectrum ranging from Bollywood, to Trinidadian, to Colombian, to Turkish, to Persian, to Montenegrin, to French, to Russian, to Polish, to Jewish, to Chinese, to Korean, to Japanese, to Italian, to Irish, and of course American!

Will you take song requests from guests?

6

You decide your comfort level here, but the DJ booth is quite an open-door setup: people can easily walk up. However - guest requests can be a fun part of the night! Through extensive music planning, Brian already knows what you like and dislike. He kindly makes the call in the moment whether a request is inappropriate or perfect. And, they are always balanced with the overall flow on the dance floor.

If a request fits the energy and style of the evening, it can be a great addition to the celebration!

What happens if the DJ gets sick or has an emergency?

7

Weddings are once-in-a-lifetime events, so backup planning is extremely important.

Because Brian performs weddings through one of the region’s most established wedding entertainment companies, there is a professional team and backup DJs available if an emergency ever occurs.

This ensures couples always have reliable coverage for their wedding day.

Do you act as the master of ceremonies (MC)?

8

Yes. In addition to music, a wedding DJ often helps guide the flow of the evening by making important announcements such as:

• Wedding party introductions
• First dances
• Toasts
• Cake cutting
• Special moments throughout the night

The goal is to keep the evening organized while maintaining an elegant and relaxed atmosphere. BUT - we do not act as “hype men.” We don’t yell at the crowd. We don’t do trivia during dinner. We let the music do the talking as much as possible, and stay “out of the way” of the perfect evening, with the perfect music played at the perfect time. ;)

How long do wedding DJs typically play?

9

Most weddings include 4–6 hours of music, and this varies depending on the timeline.

A typical schedule might include:

• Guest arrival / Ceremony music
• Cocktail hour
• Dinner music
• 2-3 hours of dancing

Some couples also choose to extend the celebration with an After Party later into the night.

Do you provide your own sound system?

10

Yes.

DJ Brian brings high-quality sound systems designed specifically for wedding venues, often providing separate sound setups for 3-4 locations: i.e. welcome reception, ceremony, cocktails, dinner/dancing. Equipment is selected to match the size and acoustics of the area/room so that the music sounds clear and balanced.

Can you provide microphones for speeches and ceremonies?

11

Yes.

Wireless microphones are commonly provided for:

• Officiants during the ceremony
• Wedding vows
• Toasts and speeches during the reception

Clear audio ensures every guest can hear these important moments.

Wedding lighting is designed to enhance the atmosphere without distracting from the elegance of the room. Many couples prefer lighting that complements the venue rather than overpowering it.

DJ Brian’s standard uplighting consists of a 4-panel illuminated screen-facade that goes in front of the DJ table. MD Music and Entertainment has additional LED uplighting packages that enhance a main room’s ambience, glow, feeling, and warmth. If moving dance floor lighting is your speed, ask about our dance floor lighting packages too.

We subcontract with our preferred Photo Booth vendors, and they provide printouts right there for your guests! You also get forever-access to all the digital photo booth pics from your night.

What kind of lighting do you use, and do you have photo booths?

12

Will you coordinate with our wedding planner or venue?

13

Yes.

We LOVE our wedding planners! Brian often works closely with:

• wedding planners
• venue coordinators
• photographers
• videographers
• catering teams

Coordination ensures the timeline flows smoothly and every moment happens at the right time.

What makes a great wedding dance floor?

14

A great dance floor is about more than just playing popular songs.

It comes from reading the room, understanding the crowd, and guiding the music in a way that keeps guests excited and engaged throughout the night. Timing, timing, timing!

The best wedding dance floors often include a mix of familiar favorites, unexpected throwbacks, and songs that bring different groups of guests together. If a song doesn’t “hit,” DJ Brian doesn’t finish it on principle; he’s ready to go in multiple directions at any moment if the need arises.

How do we make sure our guests dance?

15

There is no single formula, but a few things help create a great dance floor:

• A comfortable and welcoming atmosphere
• Music that appeals to multiple generations
• A well-timed transition from dinner to dancing
• A DJ who understands how to build energy throughout the night

When these elements come together, the dance floor often fills naturally.

Do you work with specific wedding venues?

16

Yes.

Brian has performed weddings throughout the greater New York region, NYC, Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, the Hudson Valley, the Catskills, Saratoga Springs, and the Adirondacks, including many well-known New England wedding venues. Click here to see our venues & preferred vendors list

Experience with venues helps Brian as the wedding DJ understand room layouts, sound needs, and how the evening typically flows in each space.

What should we look for when hiring a wedding DJ?

17

Couples should look for a DJ who offers:

• wedding experience
• professionalism and reliability
• strong reviews from past couples
• clear communication during planning
• the ability to read a crowd and guide the energy of the night

Music is one of the most memorable parts of a wedding, so choosing the right DJ is important!

How much does a wedding DJ cost?

18

Wedding DJ pricing varies depending on several factors, including:

• location of the wedding
• length of coverage
• equipment requirements
• travel considerations

Couples planning weddings in regions like Saratoga, the Hudson Valley, and destination venues in the Catskills or Adirondacks often work with DJs who specialize in weddings and provide a full professional setup for the event. Typically, experience places our services in the $2,200 to $3,500 range.

What happens after we contact you?

19

After an inquiry is received, couples are typically invited to schedule a Zoom consultation to discuss:

• the vision for the wedding
• musical preferences
• timeline details
• venue logistics

This helps ensure the music and flow of the evening match exactly what the couple has in mind, and it’s nice to simply meet DJ Brian to gauge his outgoing personality and energy!

20

The easiest way is to fill out the availability form on the contact page.

From there, you’ll receive more information and can schedule a consultation to discuss your wedding in more detail.
